Sarah WHITTINGTON is still causing me problems. It seems likely that: Sarah V. WHITTINGTON, father Charles Downer 1881 census; Sarah Wray WHITTINGTON, father James WHITTINGTON 1877 marriage certificate; Sarah Urry WHITTINGTON, father Isaac WHITTINGTON - baptised Calbourne 1856 are the same person. I've never come across anyone with 3 fathers before! Isaac WHITTINGTON's first wife, Eliza, must have died, perhaps in childbirth, as he remarried in 1857. This may have been the reason why Sarah was not brought up by Isaac. Could someone with access to the 1861/1871 census please have a look to see who she was living with? The IOW birth index gives her birth as 1855 but she wasn't baptised until 19th September 1856. Would the entry for her baptism say if her mother was already deceased?
