Hi All I would like to find out about Newchurch. Can anyone tell me if I am correct in believing that Newchurch did not survive the Wars. If so are there records available. In addition, does it have a cemetary? Thanks Gabi

Anybody with ancestors in 'Newchurch' needs to be very clear on what they are talking about. Newchurch is a village in the middle of the Island but historically the parish stretched from the north coast of the Island - so included Ryde - to the south coast of the Island - so included Ventnor. And don't confuse the ecclesiastical parish with the civil parish. If you are using census records do check whether it is the civil parish that is Newchurch - if so check where else it is.
