Hi.....I've got reference to an ancestor, SIMEON ABBOTT, being buried in Plot G133 - Newport in 1934. Would this refer to Northwood Cemetery or is there another in Newport? Anyone local to the Island feel like checking it out to see if there is an MI?? All the best......mary lou sun valley, id usa

Hi Mary Lou It is most likely Newport cemetery, rather than Northwood, or Carisbrooke. The Isle of Wight Council manages the cemeteries on the Island: Ashey cemetery, Binstead cemetery, Carisbrooke cemetery, East Cowes cemetery, Newport cemetery, Northwood cemetery, Ryde cemetery, Sandown cemetery, Shanklin cemetery St. Paul's cemetery, Ventnor cemetery, Wroxall cemetery. I am in the process of recording all the M.I. in the Ryde Cemetery, but I don't know if anyone has already done the Newport cemetery. I could do it when I next take a day off, which won't be for a week or so.
