Hi All I'd be interested to know the answer to this one, as my mother was taken in by a couple under similar circumstances - she thinks she knows the name of her birth mother, but as yet I have had no luck in locating records. AS I understand it, the "adoption" was before any official adoption procedures were recorded - I believe that was around 1921. And would that couple have been able to register the birth of the child under their name Either first or after "adopting" the child? Hoping someone knows about this. I am trying to establish the birth name of my husband's MOTHER. Who was adopted by a childless couple Herbert ANTROBUS & Emily (previously HAYTER) living in Freshwater IoW and married there in 1911. Any suggestions please - we are desperate to find out. Lis Warwood Adelaide South Australia
