    1. RE: [IoW] newcomers to IOW in 1860's and poor records?

    3. It has been a while since I posted but thought it worth re-trying the list - I'm eager to research the arrival of a family named EVELEIGH on the Island in the 1860's....the family was headed by Dinah and Joseph EVELEIGH, from a farm in Devon where they had lived/worked for a no' of generations. In the 1891 census their surname had been mis-spelt as Eveligh, or similar, so it took a while to locate them! They are listed at "Waitsail" at Arreton (Ag' Lab's) and by 1891 were in Carisbrooke Workhouse both aged in their 70's.... their youngest son (Harold I think) was in the army barracks in Newport by 1891 or 1901. I'd love to find out anything about how, why and when they arrived on the island, how they found work at Arreton, and any Poor Records there may be of them...so all help most gratefully received.
