    3. >>I am hoping that SKS would look at the Card Index in the Record Office to see how a person more familiar with Island surnames indexed the following Bride's surname. James GRAY married Jean CERVS/CEWS/ CERVS? November 29th 1748 Whitwell Jean GRAY was buried Whitwell May 15th 1750. I noted a burial for someone named CAWSE and wondered whether that was Jean's surname. However that did not appear to be what was written at the time of the marriage.<< Evelyn - is there a chance that the name is CAWS??? The reason I ask is that there are a LOT of them on the Island (have a few hanging out in my tree....) and that could be the root of the name you are after. There are a lot of misspellings of it as well, but if it is anything like the MURSELL family, your derivitive would be under CAWS. tee hee, this hick from Kansas got to spend Friday at the RO - first with the most delightful Don Hayward as my guide, then on my own. Ann and Les showed up, and Ann most graciously answered my bleats for help when I didn't understand what I was looking at. I will say this - there is a whole lot of really AWESOME stuff in that building, and one day was nowhere NEAR enough time for me to get even the tip of the iceberg unearthed. Now to figure out how to extend my ticket another week.... I had the most enjoyable pleasure of treating Ann and Les to dinner on Thursday night last at a most delightful dining spot, and would love to have been able to spend more time with them both. My favorite kind of folks - dearly beloved to be sure! --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? vote.yahoo.com - Register online to vote today!
