My Great Great Grandfather JOHN PHILBRICK (Fillbrook and other variations way back) was shown on his childrens birth records as "Porter". Is it possible for anyone to tell me what sort of Porters worked in the Ryde area in 1830/45 period. Would it be in the docks, railways, hotel, homes or business areas ? I am still trying to establish if he was born in the Isle-of-Wight or Essex or ??? Also could anyone be able to check the 1841 census again for me in St. Helens please, and is there one for 1831.
