Does anyone on the list have details of his forebears? We would all love to know just who he is. > > Thank you, > > Anne, New Zealand My Midlane research has had to take a back seat due to other commitments but I always read with interest the emails regarding Albert Midlane on this newsgroup. I would be willing to answer any queries people have regarding possible connection to Albert who was the younger brother of my GG grandfather. While much of my research is on my PC there still remains plenty to be input, so you could be waiting a week or so.. For the interest of those with Midlanes in their family Tree below are some details. There were 11 known children in the family with Albert being the youngest. Their parents were James Midlane and Fanny Laws. James was born c 1779 died 1824 and buried in Newport IoW. He married Fanny Laws on Jan 1 1802 in Newport. Fanny was buried 23 April 1872, Mountjoy Cemetery (beside Carisbrooke Castle) Grave Letter P No 453. Children of James Midlane and Fanny Laws are: John, Jane, Ann, Charles, Caroline, Edwin, Eliza, Marianne,Edgar, Egbert, Albert Edgar married Caroline Downer Caroline Downer 24 January 1844 in Whippingham, Isle Of Wight, In addition to the well known hymn Albert wrote some books including A Mother's Memorial May 1872 (consisting of simple verses presented to his mother on her 74th to 88th birthdays) As the moment I have no further information beyond Albert's parents. Mary Beglan, Dublin, Ireland (with Midlane and Downer connections IoW)

    3. Thanks Mary! It is certainly a start. The last of my Midlane forebears, Helen, was baptised in 1823, her parents were William and Matilda (CAWS?) so at the closest they can only have been second cousins - I think?
