Hi Evelyn: In your second paragraph, cited below, the wording initially suggested to me that George SMITH was said to have drowned (a person named) Sydney, who was the son of Nicholas and Frances. After re-reading the message and this sentence I realized you meant he had drowned _at_ Sydney (whether Australia or somewhere else) and that George was the son of Nicholas and Frances! (As my English teacher once pointed out, "The center-forward should have shot himself." was an example of ambiguity.) I have PHILLIPS and SMITH in my IOW interests. I was interested in your comments about the SMITH genealogy, is this available anywhere? Perhaps you can find other information regarding my SMITH family? 1871 Census, Portsea, Hampshire: RG10 PIECE 1142 FOLIO 46 PAGE 38 SCHEDULE 218 31 Yorke St, Portsea, Portsmouth George SMITH H M 40 Confectioner b.
