    3. Good day I'm new to the list, but not to genealogy or mailing lists. My main family name interest is WELSFORD and I work on the various branches with a cousin. We have gathered so much information in our hunt for direct line family that we are now are forming them into 'sagas', as a way of documenting details. Currently my cousin is working on a Joseph WELSFORD. We know that he was born in London 1812, but left the country, as he married Mary Frances LINTON in 1836 in Barbados, where they had one child in 1840. It is assumed that Mary died, as Joseph has been located with an Ann Thomson Elder (marriage place & date unknown), because their children's births have been located in the United States. He applied to become US citizen - applying in 1849 and becoming a citizen in 1854. At some point the family came back from the US, as several of the children are on the UK 1881 census in one location. However, neither Joseph, wife Ann nor their daughter Margaret appears on that census and yet Joseph died in Bonchurch in 1885, having lived /owned Winterbourne House. His wife was still living at Winterbourne House in 1886 and his daughter Margaret Elder also died at Bonchurch, Isle of Wight. Another daughter Alice Martha married a William Proctor on the Isle of Wight. I appreciate we are making assumptions that the three of them came back from the US at the same time as the other children, but I wonder if there is anyone with access to local directories or even local census transcriptions for the area, who would be willing to look-up the name WELSFORD. We are currently not aware of any other branch of the family that lived on the Isle of Wight in the time-frame, although if any were found we gratefully accept them, as they are all cousins! Thank you for any help you can offer. Regards Audrey Du'Mont Just north of Bristol - England
