    3. Hi to all the listers, I am a newbie researching for a friend the surname Pragnell. I note from looking in the archives quite a bit of activity with this name, so help someone can be of help. My friends grandfather was GEORGE PRAGNELL who married ALICE COPAS in Middlesex in 1909 and was born approx 1881-82 Looking at the 1901 census I found George Pragnell in Middlesex age 19 as a private infantryman [which fits, he was in the tenth Hussars at one stage] and birthplace Newport IOW. There is debate in the family whether the family is from IOW or Tytherley in Hamps, perhaps it is both. There is also the idea that there is also a Clement, Herbert and Edward, and Ellen or Nell, Rose and Susan in the family. George's mother died when he was two years old and older sister Nell or Ellen brought him up. The family have no idea who the parents are, and I have found those names in the 1881 census in various families in both places, Clement being rather rare with only one in each place. They were part of a large family as usual and I wonder if the Clement born Dec 1866 in Arreton could be an eldest brother, as he too appears to have fought in the Boer War, from data I have found. There is a George born Newport in the 1881 census with a couple of older family members possibly absent, parents Samuel James and Maria Pragnell. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jan Robb....Central Otago...N.Z.
