    3. 4 Dec 1852 Charles MEADER, drunk and disorderly on Sunday morning, fined 5s & 5s costs. In default committed to 21 days at Winchester. 'He has 7 children in a state of wretched squalor & misery& starvation, and should have kept his family in preference to getting intoxicated with his spare cash. These poor children have been taken to the House of Industry' 13 Aug 1853 Inquest - William GORGE & Jacob WEARN, drowned in the Medina , David Corke, the Captain of the steamer ran in to their boat , they were fishing off Atherfield. Boat was unobserved by all on board the steamer. William HILLIER, convicted of releasing 11 impounded donkeys at Ventnor. George JOBLING complainant and was fined 5s and 7s costs or 14 days in prison. Isaac LONG, of Calbourne , assault on Jane HOBBS . Adjourned John LOCKE, assault on Henry GRANT who was detected stealing apples from his yard. He took the law in to his own hands by administering a rope end too severely ( ah the good old days :-) ) fined 2s and 6d costs 22 Oct 1853 Charles STEPHENS , assault on William WHITE of the Wagon & Horses Inn, fined 5s and 5s costs Isaac VINE, drunk and disorderly fined 5s and 5s costs Mary Ann JACOBS, stated her age as 24 but in appearance not above 12, committed to trial at next sessions for pick pocketing the wife of James BUTT John WEARN alias ' Swarthy Jack' an 'old offender' fined 5s drunk& disorderly Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.
