    3. Hello all, I am new to the list. My primary interest in the region is FARRANT. My FARRANT family came from Thorncombe and Axminster on the Devon/Dorset of the border, however, at least two branches settled on the Isle of Wight for a while. The first were the family of John FARRANT and Mary Ann COCHRANE. John was a shoemaker and was born c.1807 in Thorncombe. Mary Ann was his second wife, born circa 1817 in Silverton Devon, according to her marriage certificate she was the daughter a soldier named Simon Cochrane but I know nothing more on the Cochranes. John and Mary Ann wandered around the South of England including during the late 1850s the Isle of Wight. One of their children, Samuel, was born there (Assumed to be GRO 1857Q4 Isle of Wight 2b/459). The other branch of the family with known connections is John FARRANT's cousin, Lucy Ann FARRANT. I believe Lucy Ann (b.c.1821,Thorncombe) married a William CUTLER a carpenter from Ryde (GRO 1847Q2 Isle of Wight, Hampshire Vol 8 Page 348) and lived there until her death in 1876 (GRO 1876Q4 Isle of Wight, Hampshire Vol 2b). Lucy Ann also had a brother, Champness, who settled just across the Solent in Southampton. I wondered whether there was anybody in the group who shared these interests and also please could somebody advise me whether there were any Isle of Wight sources avaiable on line. Many thanks Peter
