Deborah Thanks for responding to my query regarding the Lane family of the IOW. I have met a brick wall with my gggrandfather Richard Lane. He was born abt. 1812 supposedly in W.Cowes but I have not found any reference so far to his parents. Every census records his birthplace as W.Cowes but I did find on IGI a Richard Dickenson Lane b. 21/2/1812 of Narcissus Hampshire ... a ship of that name was in Portsmouth harbour about that time.... but I haven't been able to find a definte link with this entry to my own family. I have also found a George Lane bap. Portsea 8/12/1806 - parents Henry & Harriet but again no definite connection although all three of these names recur in my family line. Here's what I do know; *Richard Lane* mar. Mary Ann Storey in Northwood IOW 1836. Their children were: Sarah Ann b.1838; *William* (my ggrandfather) b.1840; Harriet b.1843; George Henry b.1845; Walter b.1847. all born in Northwood. *William *mar. Elizabeth Harding Warne in Northwood in 1863. Their children were:- Mary Ann Elizabeth b.1864 W.Cowes *William Richard Henry* (my grandfather) b. 1868 W.Cowes Ada Harriet b. 1870 W.Cowes Alice Eugenie b. 1872 W.Cowes Newton Walter b. 1874 Alverstoke, Gosport Walter George b.1881 Alverstoke. I have not come across Martha Lane d/o William & Elizabeth. Where did they live on the Island?
