Jill, Kate Sorry to disagree with Kate but I don't think The Mall in Binstead is what you are looking for. The Mall is in Newport. It is part of Carisbrooke Road, between Drill Hall Lane and Cavendish Place. It seems it is not always used these days in a postal address. It is a line of fine Victorian (?) homes on the north side of Carisbrooke Road, with a raised pavement between the houses and the road which formed a promenade. I would feel sure that all of these houses which were probably quite grand when built would originally have been individually named. You will find several addresses referenced if you Google (UK pages) "The Mall" Newport, such as The IW Conservative Assoc (sorry, not meant to be political). You may well be lucky and fins that one of the houses is still called Navarino. Certainly in my living memory no-one would have given Binstead a Newport postal address. Binstead's postal address would always have been Ryde. Have a look at this link... Kate -----Original Message----- I am looking for the records of Mr. A. I would like to know whether the address still exists and what the initial A. stood for. Where should I find this information? Regards Jill
Hi Jon No problem - these were just suggestions in the absence of replies from people with better local knowledge. I thought it was strange to include Binstead in a Newport address, but that is what Google Maps does. Now I check the GPO site it shows Binstead as part of Ryde - sorry.
