Dear Listers, Some of my IOW ancestors were publicans, innkeepers and wine merchants. There are plans to visit the island next week for a pub tour!!! But do the pubs of interest still exist because I cannot find them? 1861 James and Kate KNIGHT (nee DYER) were at the Prince of Wales, 214 High Street, Ryde. 1871 Kate KNIGHT was a Hotel Keeper at the Prince of Wales, 96 High Street, Ventnor. 1881 and 1891, Kate was a Wine Merchant at 103 High Street, Ventnor 1881 William James KNIGHT and Priscilla (nee THOMAS) were Innkeepers at the Crown and Sceptre, 117 High Street, Newport. 1861 and 1871 George and Elizabeth KNIGHT (nee SIMMONDS) were at the Bell Inn, 149or 159 St. James's Square, Newport 1881 Charles and Mary A SIMMONDS were at the Bugle Trap, 20 Lugley St. Newport 1881 George Henry KNOWLES and Jane (nee MORRIS) were innkeepers at 109 Carisbrooke Road, Carisbrooke. No name given. Any advice or information would be appreciated. Very importantly will we get a decent pint on our visit to the IOW? Jill
