Hi Joan, That was a bit of a mystery for me many years ago but I sorted it out, although I still have one distant cousin who insists they are one and the same. The Robert YELF born 1772 son of James YELF and Anne MIDLANE did indeed marry Sophia CARD and they were my 4x Great Grandparents. This couple moved to Southampton in the early 1810's with their sons and one daughter, I have their death certificates although I have not found the burial place yet. The Robert YELF that married Sophia DENTON was baptised 13/12/ 1778 and was the son of William YELF and Mary ASHWOOD. That William YELF was also the brother of James YELF so the two Robert YELF's were cousins, according to this "tree". It really is very involved because of all the repetitive christian names in the YELF family . I think I counted 6 Robert YELF's so far.
