    3. The Friends of Northwood Cemetery is very pleased to announce the availability of a Burial Records look-up facility on the web. This covers the very first burial in 1856 (...James CRIBB - you might be interested in searching for him to see what happened when he was buried...) to 30th June 2008 (yes, that's yesterday). 16,656 burials (and, more latterly, "cremated remains") in total. At present all the information recorded in the Burial Registers (including the "description" of the deceased and his/her "place of death") has been transcribed up to 1900 - and the remaining years (to 2008) will be transcribed over the next 3 months. However, all records in the database have at least the deceased name, age, date of burial and plot/grave number - and a map showing the plot in which they are buried in an overall map of the cemetery. There are also galleries of headstone photographs on the web-site (www.friendsofnorthwoodcemetery.org.uk); these are in the process of being organised so that a link can be added to an individual record in the database thus enabling the headstone photograph to be accessed directly from the search results page. We hope to complete this work by the end of July. If you have any comments that you would like to attach to an individual burial record (such as that attached to James CRIBB), then please let me know and we'll do our best to accommodate them.
