    3. Hi Eddie, Just to add to Joy's wonderful message already sent you: 1911 census (Free Search on www.1911census.co.uk ) HOUSEHOLD HIRTER EDNA F 1908 3 Isle of Wight Hampshire HOUSEHOLD HIRTER HANS M 1876 35 Steyning Sussex HOUSEHOLD HIRTER MILDRED F 1885 26 Isle of Wight Hampshire It appears that Hans (Johann) is in Sussex (possibly returned to Hastings to visit Mildred's family / friends) while Mildred, with their daughter Edna, remained on the IoW. If you search FreeBMD (www.freebmd.org.uk ) - HIRTER: It gives you the marriage of Hans & Mildred, the births of their 5 children (including Vera who died within a few months of being born) and the marriages of 2 of the children. Ancestry has the baptisms of : Name: Eidelweiss Mildred Edna HIRTER Gender: Female Birth Date: 21 Apr 1908 Christening Date: 7 Jun 1908 Christening Place: Shalfleet, Hampshire, England Age at Christening: 0 Father's Name: Hans HIRTER Mother's Name: Mildred (I take this to be your namesake - and the Edna on the 1911 census above.) also: Name: Audrey Gwendoline Marie HIRTER Gender: Female Birth Date: abt 1912 Christening Date: 4 Sep 1912 Christening Place: Sandown, Hampshire, England Father's Name: Hans HIRTER Mother's Name: Mildred I can't find any trace of Johann (Hans) before 1904, so I would assume that he arrived in England between 1901 and 1904. Johann HIRTER (aged 85), death registered June 1/4 1960 Chanctonbury District, Sussex Mildred HIRTER (aged 80), death registered March 1/4 1965 Chanctonbury District, Sussex Mildred MANTELL is on both the 1891 & 1901 census' with her parents Erastmus & Elizabeth and her 5 siblings (including her half brother George Henry REED). Erastus MANTELL is on 1851 census with his parents Benjamin & Ann and siblings in Fairlight, Sussex. In 1871 he is an Ordinary Seaman at sea aboard HMS Crocodile. In 1881 he is a General Labouerer with his wife Elizabeth and 4 children in Brading, IoW. Benjamin MANTELL is on 1841 & 1851 census with Ann and 3 children in Fairlight, Sussex. They are on 1871 census with their daughter Ellen (CARTER) in Alverstoke, Hants Ann is still with Ellen in 1881, but is a widow. Benjamin MANTELL's baptism is on the Sussex OPC (see www.sussex-opc.org ) BENJAMIN MANTELL - 29 OCT 1809 @ St. Thomas a Becket, Pagham, Sussex, England Parents: George MANTELL & Elizabeth In order to find Ann CHARLES' baptism, you could try contacting Sue Merkle, the OPC for Osmington, Dorset (see www.opcdorset.org ). Ann MANTELL (aged 74), death registered Mar 1/4 1885 Alverstoke I can't find Benjamin's death registration. I hope this helps further your searches.
