    1. [IoW] HOLLIS FAMILY
    2. April
    3. Hello. I wonder if I may ask for help with my Hollis ancesters that I am finding particularly difficult to trace after the 1841 census. I am researching the family of James and Ann ( nee Morris) HOLLIS who married 7th February 1833 Whippingham. Isle-of-Wight. Their children were Henry, Ellen Jane, Alfred, Edward, Albert, William and Walter. I rather think I have found a death for James, October/December 1849 Vol. 8. Page 162. As it is the only James Hollis I can find, I think it could be him. Maybe there is someone else researching this particular family. I believe there were about 8 different families on the Island at that particular time. Maybe Ann remarried again.?? Thank you and kind regards. April Clark nee Morris. Hampshire

    3. April Was James 85 when he died? That was the age of the James Hollis who died Isle of Wight in 1849. I think from your other comments James was actually born about 1806, according to the 1841 census, so I don't think this is the James in question. If it were then there is a marriage for an Ann Hollis to Maurice Silsbury in 1853 at Whippingham St Mildred, and Ann can be found in 1861 with place of birth of Whippingham. Here's a thought - there is a family recorded in the 1851 census in Kenystone or Kingstone, Whippingham (I'm not sure of the place name), called HALLIDAY, their names are James (46), Ann (45), Henry (17), Jane (16), Alfred (14), Edward (11), Albert (9), William (6) and Walter (3). Coincidence? Reference is Class: HO107; Piece: 1662; Folio: 242; Page: 25 Hope this helps Jon Baker -----Original Message----- From: isle-of-wight-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:isle-of-wight-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of April Sent: 11 April 2010 21:06 To: isle-of-wight@rootsweb.com Subject: [IoW] HOLLIS FAMILY Hello.
