Dear Listers, this might be useful for anyone searching for naval ancestors: go to the National Archives search page, put in the person's name and ADM for 'Department or series code'. On this occasion there were no results. Next: go to 'Documents Online' and choose 'Registers of Seamen's Services'. This produced 3 results; 2 were for men born on the Isle of Wight. You can obtain a copy of the record by ordering it online at £3:50, visit the National Archives and print it off for 20p (difficult for those living overseas) or find someone to do it for you. He is on the Vessel Juno for RNavy ships and am not too sure but the occupation appears to LgStoI - does this translate as ? Large (ok not sure) Stoker Class 1. I am sure there is someone out there with greater knowlege than mine and am giving thanks in advance for any assistance.
