    3. Phil, I and other appreciate your offer. It's the kind of thing that makes the list worthwhile. And I understand with your own surname being White, you might be subconsciously tempted to spell the name of our illustrious isle, White, but it's Wight not white in the light of the place names in Britain. Incidentally, in looking up Wight to see what antecedents it may have sprung from, it's from an Old or (pick your source) Middle English word meaning a human being, in particular a living being. And for those like me who've never played it, the fantasy game, Dungeons and Dragons, so favored by young boys, uses it as a term for a particular kind of "undead creature," whatever that is. And as to your offer, do the surnames Hibberd, Thomas, or Phillips appear among your associated family names? Those are my surnames but mostly in neighboring towns of Ventnor, Newchurch, and Wroxall.
