Hi Anne, Thank you so very much for your concern. The reason I will not search further for Nancy Hunter of Ryde/1790 is that she doesn't really exist except due to a mix-up by LDS. As I indicated in my recent message to the List, they apparently included many, many entries that properly belong to the Batch for Christenings in Shap, Westmorland, in the Batch for Skye ..... that was/is a mistake. A while back I did have the church records from Shap for Nancy Hunter, and she does in fact exist in those records ..... but was not the person I was looking for. As an afterthought, I remembered that I had printed out all of the Hunters from both batches. That of Shap, and that of Ryde. The eleven (11) Hunters included in the Ryde Batch may be LITERALLY found again in the Shap Batch. This is just too much of a coincidence. At least my personal plight in attempting to find this nonexistent Nancy from Ryde has been resolved and that "feels" good. I can no look elsewhere for this illusive Ancestor. Again, thanks for you concern. The IGI is well known for mistakes but this lot must be a record. Unfortunately the Batch for Ryde (C009880) has been intermingled (?) with that of Shap (P002301). Hours were spent attempting to inform LDS re this problem but to date I have not found anyone who comprehends the problem. The Nancy Hunter is listed in 'both Ryde and Shap, with the same set of parents, and a Christening date of 31 Dec, 1790. The problem further compounds as LDS brings these Batches into other things, such as: "England Births and Christenings 1538-1975." One has her christened in Shap, Westmoreland and residing in Westmoreland. Another has her christened in Ryde, Hampshire and residing in Shap, Westmoreland The third has her christened in Ryde, Hampshire and residing in Hampshire. ALAS, just before ordering all of Ryde's Church records, I stumbled upon a curious fact regarding these Batches. Having selected, rather randomly, fifteen (15) names from Ryde, I then compared this list with possible duplications in Shap. Ten (10) of the fifteen had exactly the same surnames, given names, day/month/year of their Christening.!!!! I will no longer search for Nancy Hunter from Ryde, and please accept my sincere apologies for asking you to help me in that.
