Not sure which was the biggest blunder, FMP or Robert Green :-) -----Original Message----- Hope you did not have our probs with this! Tried to get in for ages then told by server could not connect us!
Hello John. I also. like so many, found it frustrating in trying to access the Findmypast during the "free" hours yesterday. Although I was one of the more fortunate ones to be able to sign in as I am already registered with them, I was continually "timed out" whilst waiting to be connected to various sections I had clicked onto. Then I had to re-sign in which was frustrating. Where I did manage to connect and obtain information (3 times in those 3 hours), I checked my credits and they did not get used. It was the free access, once registered, that drew a global response. Well, why not, I ask, it was lovely to have it free, especially if you have credits like me and therefore cannot get to all they have to offer IF one has a years subscription (£149) I think that is correct. Looking forward to the next match so that I can add to the bits I was able to get last night and hope Find my past will be more able to cope with the huge demand. It is a lovely offer which we all want to benifit from. Kind regards. April New Forest
Listers Hope you did not have our probs with this! Tried to get in for ages then told by server could not connect us! Obviously did eventually register - but everything was for "payment" and couldn't work out if they would charge us immense sums - but couldn't get anywhere with trying to research on account of server problems re-occurring constantly and agree with John & Alan - hopeless! They simply made it too difficult to get in and were not up to the offer they made once you accessed the site. When they offer something like it they should surely have a "key" or programme set to wipe out the charges symbols. Otherwise how would they know "when and what time" you did your research under this free access and research for 3 hours saga!!!! t 'was a complete flop. Tried for nearly an hour without success to get onto the 'free'1911 search page. Alan
Pity the FMP servers are not up to the job :-( Suppose they didn't think we could watch the footy and research at the same time. I was wondering if someone could help with some divorce records I recently requested from Her Majesty's Courts Service (UK) and received in the post today. I requested the divorce records for one of my ancestors. The date of the divorce was 1953 and I received the 'Certificate of making Decree Nisi Absolute (Divorce) and another one page document that listed the parties to the divorce and the reason for the divorce (in this case adultery). I have two questions: Is there likely to be additional papers that I can request - the documents mention that evidence was taken in support of the petition? I am particularly interested in the division of the property and what provision was made for the child of the marriage. The paragraph relating to the children of the marriage is crossed out and there is not another paragraph substituted. Were divorces in the 1950s notified in the newspapers? Thanks Claire (Canberra, Australia)
Hello Everyone. As the list seems to have gone rather quiet this past week or so (unless I'm not getting the mailings) I thought I would share this discovery from my research made this week. My GGGgrandmother was a certain Ann Billimore, originally from Newmarket. She married my GGGgrandfather, John Harrison, a race-horse trainer originally from Derbyshire. They then lived in Chantilly, France and later Epsom, Surrey. Because my GGgrandfather was born in France I hit a brick wall which stayed unsolved until a few weeks ago. I have now discovered that one of Ann Billimore's sisters married a chap called Osman from the Isle of Wight. She was his second wife. His first wife was Jemima HOLLIS, also from the IOW. I always thought that my family came from the Sussex and Somerset areas (Paternal two generations and maternal many generations). I was born in Portsmouth and worked for many years in Gloucestershire where I met my wife, Lynn. In 1988 Lynn and I married. Her maiden name was HOLLIS and her family come from the IOW. Coincidence or what?? Kind Regards to All. Steve Harrison
