and I have a Dore Dinah DORE wed Peter WHEELER , 19 Oct 1803 in Shalfleet Happy hunting Jean
While we're on the DORE family, I checked my tree and found one as well. William DORE married Sarah THEARLE (my interest being the TH(E)ARLE name) in Shorwell in 1762. I know nothing more about them except for a little of Sarah's ancestry. Maybe someon can fill in their family? Regards James Butler
Dear Andrea, I have just noticed on my Tree that Robert DORE and Sarh DALLIMORE, who married in 1833 at Carisbrooke, had a child (nameless in my records!) who subsequently had a child named, for his sins, Percy Dallimore....maybe Dore or maybe something else, had the Dore parent been female. Good wishes, Helen Martin
Dear Andrea and Raymond, Thank you for all the DORE names, but I cannot match any of your list, Raymond, to the few names on my Tree. Andrea, I also have Robert DORE and Sarah DALLIMORE marrying in 1833, and will add the fact that a Robert DORE was born in 1801 at Niton to Robert and Martha DORE. David DORE seems allusive - perhaps he was brother to Robert DORE(senior). With kind regards, Helen Martin

Greetings to the List - I'm new to the list, and not a genealogist as such, but a researcher and collector to the King's Royal Rifle Corps. I'm currently working to develop information on William Edwin PRISTO. The PRISTO family name is an unusual and scarce name in the U.K. - indeed there are only nine men, women, and children with the name in the 1881 British census returns, and the family seems to be centred on the Isle of Wight. Wm E. PRISO's parents were William and Louisa E. A. (née DENEIGE) PRISTO. William was born at Whippinham, Louisa was a French national. In the 1901 census, WP was a 35 year old architectural draughtsman, and was living at East Cowes. WEP was born in 1895 at East Cowes, IOW. He served with the 60th (London) Divisional Cyclist Company as No. 13435 Sergeant W. E. PRISTO, with the XVIII Corps Cyclist Battalion of the Army Cyclist Corps as No. 10 Sergeant W. E. PRISTO. He was commissioned in the King's Royal Rifle Corps on 29 August 1917. Posted to the 10th (Service) Bn KRRC, he was taken as a prisoner of war by the Germans on 30 November 1917, and was not released until after the end of the war. He married at St. Mildred, Whippingham in 1919 a Beatrice E. RUSSELL, and had at least two daughters I believe. He also authored a history of the London Cyclist Company for its' Old Comrades Association in 1935. During WWII WEP served once again, this time in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Lieutenant. He was still in service in August of 1945. If anyone on the list has an interest in the PRISTO family, I'd be happy to share what information I have, and would welcome any and all help in fleshing out this man's story. I'd be especially interested to know if there might be information in the local papers on his capture and release as a POW, and in knowing what became of the man and his family. Hi everyone! Firstly thankyou to everyone for being so helpful, we have been overwhelmed with offers of help! After meeting with a relative we didn't know we had [not more than 15 minutes drive!], we have more questions. One of our WADE families is listed in the 1851 census, but there are family members missing! The ones listed are: Edward Wade, hd, 58, Boatbuilder. Helens, IOW Jane Wade, wife, 54, - [nee BARTLETT] Frederick Wade, son, 30 Boatbuilder. Albert Wade, son, 22, Mariner, Ashford Wade, son, 20, Boatbuilder Emily Wade, dau, 16 Alfred Wade, son, 10 Scholar However, according to photocopies of the family bible, there were several other siblings. 1. Jane Bartlett Wade [would have been 33 at time of 1851 census - possibly married a James Southcott in 1839] 2. William Edward Wade [ born in 1819 - and we know nothing more about him!] 3. Ellen Eliza Wade [aged 28 at time of 1851 census - possible marriage to a Thomas Faithfull in 1842] 4. Mary Ann Wade [ born in 1825 and we know nothing more about her!] 5. Janet Maria [would have been 24 at time of 1851 census - possible marriage to a William J Harvey, but not until 1865?] 6. Walter George Wade [18 at time of 1851 census] 7. Emily Hannah Wade [16 at time of 1851 census. We think she married a Henry Toogood in 1853] 8. Selina Rose Wade [13 at time of 1851 census. Possible marriage to a Frederick Burdan in 1856 - but we know no more about her] Is anyone able to look any of these individuals up in either 1841, 1851 or 1861? We're anxious to know how many may have come out to Australia. We know Albert [full name: Albert Henry Wade] did, and that Walter George Wade did, but not sure about any of the others. Dear Andrea, I have a Mary DORE mentioned thus in footnotes, for Jane DORE, accompanying the DALLIMORE Tree.: Jane DORE - 'both Jane's parents had died by 11.12.1823, the Date of her sister Mary's Will'. The parents were Kezia DALLIMORE (previously married to Daniel WICHOR) and David DORE. Kezia DALLIMORE'S parents were Thomas DALIMERE and Hannah ROGERS. There is no detail for David's parentage. Interestingly, a Mary does not appear as a sister to Jane anywhere else - certainly not in the 1823 Will of spinster Aunt Mary DALLIMORE, sister of Thomas DALIMERE, who mentioned Jane as a beneficiary. Perhaps she had become a non person, if it is the same Mary! Then again, the word 'sister' could be a mis-print when infact the name Mary, in the foot-note, could be referring to Jane's Aunt Mary DALLIMORE! All good wishes, Helen MARTIN (nee DALLIMORE)
Hello Helen and any other listers, we found our Eliza Dore on Thursday at the record office, she was illegitemate. This is what we have for Dore's:- Robert DORE and Martha his wife had the following children James Dore 15/11/1792 Niton William Dore 9/11/1794 Niton Mary Dore 21/2/1796 Niton John Dore 31/12/1797 Niton Robert Dore 1/11/1801 Niton Thomas Dore 8/5/1803 Niton Timothy Dore 10/11/1805 Niton Henry Dore 3/4/1808 Niton Charles Dore 26/12/1813 Niton Mary Dore (1796) had two illigitimate children, James Dore 23/2/1817 Niton and our Eliza Dore 16/4/1820 who married John Hobbs of Carisbrooke in 1836/37 Niton. I have no knowledge of the Mary you speak of Helen, but will keep this info in my notes, perhaps at some date we might solve the puzzle. We had found in the records the marriage of David Dore and Kesia Dallimore 1794 Whippingham, the later one of Robert Dore and Sarah Dallimore 1833 Carisbrooke, and an earlier marriage between a David Dore and Mary Hobbs 1788 Godshill, wouldn't she be then Mary Dore' I know its a long shot, but if Kesia was a widow David might of been too, perhaps there were children carried into a second marriage and they would then be siblings, who knows ????????????? Kind regards Andrea Cox. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of 56k? Get a FREE BT Broadband connection http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/btbroadband

Dear Listers, I have just received details of the Will of George ABSALOM, who died in the district of Newport in 1802. He married Esther/Hester in Carisbrooke in 1752. Two of his children were mentioned as benefactors, George and Betty. They would have been born between about 1852 and 1870. I would like to know when they were born and also the names of any other siblings. ( They are not on the I.G.I. ) Any other info' on the two would be appreciated. Are births and marriages otherwise indexed for the Newport area? I would be most grateful for some help. Rhoda
