Robert Barrett contacted me several years ago regarding my FLEMING family on the IOW, actually traced a neice of mine and phoned her, and he was very helpful and knowledgeable but unfortunately was not computerised and all correspondence was by email. I asked Anne if he was related but she said no, I would like to see a copy of that article in the Daily Mail if someone could scan it though I have had poor results from scanning newspaper articles Phil White in New Hampshire Roots in Sussex & IOW

Hi Steve I can understand your frustration. I found him (I think) on the 1881 census born Carisbrooke Hampshire which is what whetted my appetite as I was born there but over a 100 years later. I then spent a long time going through 1837online and found every name but Frederick. Did he have any siblings to your knowledge? I have a list of 11 Warnes all born on the island between 1838 and 1843. These include a pair of twins. Sorry I couldn't help and you probably know about the others I found, but if not give a shout & I will send them to you off-list Pauline ----- Original Message ----- From: "steve" <steve.riverside@virgin.net> To: <ISLE-OF-WIGHT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2004 7:22 PM Subject: [IoW] Advice needed > Hi > I seem to have hit a brick wall, is there someone who can offer > advice. > > Frederick Warne born 1840/1841. Hi I seem to have hit a brick wall, is there someone who can offer advice. Frederick Warne born 1840/1841. I cannot seem to locate this birth, I have checked on the BMD index's, although I found them difficult to read. I have also checked the Baptism records. His father was William Warne. Frederick gave the address of New Street on his marriage cert. (Please note this is not Frederick Charles Warne, Have checked this out ) Many thanks Steve

I have a Henry RUSSELL, born 1822 in Shorwell whose father was a Richard RUSSELL and I have been contacted by a fellow researcher who has a Mary RUSSELL, born abt 1800 in Shorwell, but without any further info. Hello, I am seeking advice on how to proceed with my research of the Fevens family. The earliest record that I have is my great great grandfather's (Charles Feven) marriage register transcript, (May 3, 1856 in Halifax, Nova Scotia). Charles went by the name "Feven", while his two sons later changed their names to "Fevens" about 1880. Charles was a sea captain, but where he, as far as I can tell, was only involved in the coastal trade of North America he was not required to have Captain's Papers. I have researched the maritime angle of his life at the PRO without much success. There were Fevens on the Isle of Wight at one time and in the Portsmouth area. An 1866 map of the Isle of Wight shows a farm near St. Helen, called "Feevens". There are no Fevens on the 1901 British census, there are however a few Feven, which is more of a Somerset name. Listed below are some Burial entries for Sussex County. I welcome all comments, but I would enjoy in particular hearing from anyone ! with a Fevens connection. Thank you.
