I am interested in the Family of Ellen WREN and Alfred CARTER. Ellen was born in 1850 County Kerry Ireland and Alfred was born in 1848 at Newport, Isle of Wight. They were married in 1874. Their children, Frances M., Alfred D., Vivian C.W., Gertrude M.W., Ellen A. and Edward were born in Ventnor in the early 1890's. They appear in the 1881 British census. Their residence was 1 Lales Shops Trinity Road at that time. I have a record of some of them next in the 1901 Ontario, Canada census. Ellen Wren Carter does not appear in this census and may have died in IOW. Alfred was a Clothing Agent and Ellen was a dress and mantle maker according to the 1881 census. Any information on this family would be appreciated or any suggestions on further researching by me would be appreciated. Thank you, Jenny WREN

I am doing the family tree and would like any information on the Keefe and Kingswell family, I have a lot on the Kingswells but need more info on Phillip Kingswell buried 1632. I can obtain nothing on the Keefe side.
I have had the book sent out from UK for AOF, its all very interesting. apparently still in NZ as came across someone the other day, who said her husband belongs to one of the Courts, surprised me, as I was told it had fizzled out, so goes to show, dont listen to people, search for yourself!!! We have a lot of regalia dating back to 1860s of AOF for Carterton.NZ.. in our Museum, and I am in the middle of typing up the members names and particulars.. It was founded in Yorkshire...was also told by a local, it had something to do with Robin Hood! This was untrue, just because one of the Courts mentioned names of Robin Hood, they assumed it was to do with Robin of SHerwood Forest!! Many of our early settlers belonged to the Order in Carterton, which met at Marquis of Normanby.(Hotel) Adele Normally researching Early Settlers to Carterton NZ (mention NZ as there is a Carterton.UK!)
Here in the US we have the International Order Of Odd Fellows. My neighbor is a member. Small Friendly Societies had grown in numbers, offerring sickness and death benefits to members, during the latter half of the 18th century. These were individual locally based societies. The Orders were more extensive, offering broader horizons to members through districts, whilst retaining many elements of autonomy for local branches, called Courts. Hello Listers I am new to this list, and I'm taking the suggestion of Keith Elmo Eldridge to introduce myself and my research interest to the List. My name is Sonja Hardingand I live in Ottawa Ontario Canada. My ggGrandfather, John Clinton, was born at Ryde in January, 1840 to Henry Clinton and Margaret (nee Hinchey or Henchey). Henry and Margaret had a daughter named Catharine born in 1838, also at Ryde. I am an amateur genealogist with the following other surname intersts: McWILLIAM, SKEHEN, BRENNAN (in Newfoundland Canada), DELANEY, TOBIN, BRIEN, BENISON, KANE, and LAW. John CLINTON has almost 130 descendants in Canada and the United States. His granddaughters Dorothy Jean and Mollie were photographed in front of the ALCOCK and BROWN Vickers Vimy aircraft in 1919 when they departed for the first transatlantic crossing, which netted the aviators a major prize. If anyone is researching the CLINTON surname I'd welcome any contact. I am particularly interested in locating any information pertaining to Henry Clinton's coastguard service, as well as seeking descendants of Catharine, John's sister. That, in a rather thorough nutshell, is my research story. Any cousins out there? Sonja M. Harding Family Historian Descendants of John Alexander McWILLIAM (1836-1915) out of Co. Roscommon Ireland

I have been reading The Diaries of Thomas Turner 1754 to 1767, which are an excellent way of finding out how rural parishes operated in the eighteenth century. In the Diaries he mentions William Tull from Newport IOW who got Sarah Vinall pregnant and generally inconvenienced the parish of East Hoathly Hoping this helps someone Regards Tony Bevis
