Thanks for the help everyone. Does anyone have the 1841 Census entry for Stickworth Hall. I believe TABITHA TYLER was shown as a servant. I'd be most grateful. All the best Sally Malyon

Sally, My maternal ggrandfather was employed at Stickworth Hall in the 1860s. This is the reply I received from the County Archivist at the IoW Record Office. While it does not answer your query directly, it may help in your search. John Noakes Dear Mr. Noakes, Thankyou for your e-mail about Stickworth Hall in the 1860's. This office holds directories for the Isle of Wight, and this shows that Charles Halson was listed as resident in 1859 and Mrs Halson in 1871. On the 1861 census the couple are listed as aged 67 and 64, both being born in Middlesex, as was their daughter in her twenties. He was a land and fundholder, and they had a footman, a maid and a gardener, and so their establishment was not particularly large. Your ancestor was not listed in 1861 at Stickworth. I hope that this information will prove to be of use to you Yours sincerely, Richard Smout
Hi everyone, Does anyone have any information on Stickworth Hall, Arreton. I know nothing at all but have been told that TABITHA TYLER is shown as a servant there on the 1841 Census. Who were the owners, was it a large house and does it still exist? Thanks Sally Malyon
Hi I am researching the Trus(s)ler surname and its many spelling variations on a worldwide basis. I have noticed the recent correspondence between Rebecca Lale and Debbie Mawdsley re the surname Midlane and the information about this family on the 1851. Two of my Truslers married into the Midlane family and as a consequence I have some details of the children of Charles Midlane (born about 1813). This comes mainly from the 1881 What I don’t have is the name of Charles’ wife. The IGI suggests that it should be Caroline and the 1851 confirms that a Charles and Caroline are in the same household. I was wondering if either of you know her Maiden name for it doesn’t appear on the IGI? Thanks Peter Jones --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi all I have answered Jon privately. As one of the answers was particularly long I would be happy to pass it on to others privately as well. I had both the 1891 and the 1881 census information re Henry Fry and his family sent to me, plus other information that folk though might be useful. Again my thanks to all of you. Best wishes Mary in West Oz Mary Can you post the details of Henry Fry and family in 1891 to the list please so that other might benefit. I too have Henry Frys in my family would be interested to know if they were the same ones. Hi everyone! We are looking for the following people on the 1941, 1951 or any later census records. 1. Jane Bartlett Wade [would have been 33 at time of 1851 census - possibly married a James Southcott in 1839] 2. William Edward Wade [ born in 1819 - and we know nothing more about him!] 3. Ellen Eliza Wade [aged 28 at time of 1851 census - possible marriage to a Thomas Faithfull in 1842] 4. Mary Ann Wade [ born in 1825 and we know nothing more about her!] 5. Janet Maria [would have been 24 at time of 1851 census - possible marriage to a William J Harvey, but not until 1865?] 6. Walter George Wade [18 at time of 1851 census] 7. Emily Hannah Wade [16 at time of 1851 census. We think she married a Henry Toogood in 1853] 8. Selina Rose Wade [13 at time of 1851 census. Possible marriage to a Frederick Burdan in 1856 - but we know no more about her] Is anyone able to look any of these individuals up in either 1841, 1851 or 1861? We're anxious to know how many may have come out to Australia. Thanking you all in advance! Hello Beki Thank you for sending the 1851 census indexes. Last week David from Ballarat kindly did the same & I thought I'd found my Jane...however, several of her children were missing...but you've also added the index for Northwood & bingo! there they all are. I've now been able to pinpoint which of the several Jane Urry's (her maiden name) I had, to Jane 1808 d/o David Urry & Ruth. As for husband Thomas Midlane, well there's another story. In 1851 he was serving 6 months at Winkle Street Gaol, Southampton, for smuggling...again! Beki, do you have the folio & bundle/page number for the Northwood entries please? It'll be a big help if you have. Thanks to you all for your help. In the week since I joined this list, I have moved my research on so much further. Thank you all again.
