Hello Listers, I have just re-subscribed and would like to re-post my interests. My family names are: DYER BEAVIS/BEVIS FAULKNER RUSSELL KENT SALTER GROVES BARNES KINGSWELL HOBBS Plus others. ROBERTS/SWINDIN from London. I look forward to hearing from anyone with these names in common. This is my Grandfather's family, he was born in 1882, Newchurch. Regards, Lorraine McMillan Canada
Sue When was your G Grandfather a Wharfinger (BRS)? Although BRS certainly does (or did) stand for British Road Services this is I believe post 1948 only. If this occupation is pre-1948 then there may be another meaning. I'm well & truly hooked on this family tree stuff, had a bit of a reality check & chill out more than burn out now! My Maternal Grandfather wasnt born on the Island, he moved there as a young baby with his Mother, she married & had a further 8 children. His name was CARDEN John Micheal & his siblings name was/is RALPH. My Maternal Grandmother was WARNE Norah Bermadine, one of 10. In the short time I've been working on my family tree I've managed to work as far back as my G.G.Grandfather WARNE (1st name Leonard c1845). My interests are - CARDEN RALPH WARNE & BUCKETT. Whilst listening in I've seen queries regarding occupations. I found this useful website when querying my G Grandfather's work (WHARFINGER) - www.gendocs.demon.co.uk One last request, G Grandfather was a wharfinger then in brackets (BRS) anyone know if it was a local employer, he was living in Pyle Street Newport most of his married life. bye for now from the mainland! ______________________________
Thought the following was too important NOT to pass on. Angela The Government is seeking your views on the introduction of blanket rules to regulate and preserve (or not) graveyards. Have your say; Log on to www.homeoffice.gov.uk/inside/consults/current/index.html
Not many RALPHS on the Island so research should be quite 'straight forward' :-) I have a James RALPH b 1809 East Cowes ( Customs Officer ) married a Harriet born 1811 West Cowes . Two children that I have documented ( possibly more I haven't looked ) Harriet RALPH b 1842 West Cowes Sarah Deacon RALPH b 1846 West Cowes . Sarah married Edwin CLARKE 1871 in Newport. Two kids from this marriage Ralph Edwin Clarke b 1872 and the wonderful EVANGELINA ELFRIDA CLARKE 1877 ( trying saying that one after a few drinks ). Don't know if these are any good to you Angela in OZ
I just received this from the Middlesex list and thought it was too good not to pass on. Some of you may know about it already but newcomers may find it interesting. http://go.to/genmaps Jeanne _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger
Can anyone be so kind as to search for the SOUTHCOTT family? the husband, Thomas SOUTHCOTT was born c. 1797. His wife, Elizabeth Betsy SOUTHCOTT (Formerly JONES), was also born c. 1797. They had two children that I know of -- Elizabeth SOUTHCOTT b. 1833 and Henry SOUTHCOTT b. 1920. Seems to me that there should be more children! Any help would be greately appreciated it! Thanks in advanced, Kelly

Hi Sue BRS stand for British Road Service - taking goods from one place to another by road (and rail?). Don't know if that helps. Hello up there! Off topic - sorry. This means our clocks go 'back' one hour. Which means Perth will be only 2 hours before Sydney time, instead of 3. We have people in this country who think that extra hour of daylight will fade the curtains or will stop the cows from giving milk etc. An ex Premier of Queensland told people that Queenslanders could not have daylight saving because: "..everyone knows that the sun shines out of my 'derriere' and I'm not getting up an hour earlier for anybody".
