    1. Ann LOCK nee WHITE - Death
    2. Evelyn Smith
    3. Hello - I am hoping that someone on the List may have information as to the death of Ann LOCK, widow of Maurice LOCK. Ann born 23 Nov 1797 the daughter of James WHITE and his wife Frances SMITH. I have seen a note that Ann LOCK died 15 Jan 1854 Newport IoW - no source for this date. I have not found this death on any index. The date of death for Ann's husband, Maurice LOCK of 10 Mar 1842, comes from Letters of Administration for his estate. His death was not recorded on the Island nor is there an entry in the St Catherine Death Index. I had hoped to trace where and when Ann LOCK died and was buried in the hope that she was buried with Maurice. I would be grateful for any suggestions to trace what became of Ann LOCK. If she was recorded on the 1861 Census I missed that entry. Evelyn from a sunny cool Sydney, Australia

    3. Hello Jim, I have an Edward WHITE born 1803 and baptised Arreton 1806 the son of James WHITE and his wife Frances SMITH who married 19 Jan 1797 Whitwell. Their is a suspicious gap of 8 years between the known Edward and his sister Fanny so there may have been other children. 3. Hello Evelyn, I just looked at www.1837online.com for the death of your Ann LOCK. There is one registered in Jan-Mar quarter of 1854 at Chipping S. District (Vol 6a, Page 104). I believe Chipping Sodbury is in Gloucestershire. There is also an Ann LOCKE registered in same quarter in Okehampton District (Devonshire) (Vol 5b, Page 266) I could not find Maurice LOCK's death registered in first or second quarter of 1842. Don't know if this helps or hinders! 3. Dear List, My name is Carol LLOYD, I live in East Sussex and I am researching my paternal name of SHIRLEY. I have been on this list before but had no luck with any links to my family. I still keep coming back hoping to find possible connections with this name on the I.O.W. My GGrandfather was John Walter SHIRLEY Corporal Royal Artillery "away" on the 1881 and 1891Census, his wife Mary was Head of Household in Saltash, CON. My reason for joining this list is to try to discover why John and Mary's second child Henry James SHIRLEY was born 26th April 1879 and Christened at Sandown, I.O.W. a few months later in Oct 1879?? I have a copy of the Baptism record from the I.O.W. County Record Office, parents were: John and Mary SHIRLEY. Their first child Lucy SHIRLEY was born in Saltash, CON but christened on the I.O.W like her brother, I would love a copy of this Baptism too . I would appreciate any info to help me find the reason for this double christening, J.W. must have been based at a fort or some such place surely? Also hoping that John Walter SHIRLEY was born here too, as I can't find his birth in Cornwall. T.I.A. Regards, Carol
