    3. Hi Angela That looks like an IW Record Office reference - they hold the Newport Borough records. Newport had its own Quarter Sessions but the main Quarter Sessions for the rest of the Island before c.1888 are at the Hampshire Record Office as it was then part of the county of Southampton (i.e. (South)hamp(ton)shire) Di ----- Original Message ----- From: "Angela McMurtry" <palmtreeqld@optusnet.com.au> To: <ISLE-OF-WIGHT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 07, 2004 5:30 AM Subject: Quarter Sessions > Found this little beauty yesterday can anyone tell me where I can order a > copy from ??? > Angela: > > Newport Borough Quarter Sessions Indictments - Ref NBC/31/81 > 1829 Midsummer Sessions > > Harriet PITMAN wife of William PITMAN late of Newport Labourer, and Lydia > RANN late of Newport , single woman . > > Persons Bound by Recognizance : > > Hannah PITMAN > Lydia RANN > Henry BRIDLE > Mary BRIDLE > LYdia MATTHEWS > Henry LINNINGTON > Wm TAYLOR > Wm KING > Sarah SAUNDERS > John SALTER Jr > John APPLETON > > Prisoners under sentence 1829 Michaelmas Session > > Wm BATON > Wm RILEY > Henry BRIDLE > Mary BRIDLE > Lydia RANN > Harriet PITMAN > > > BANKIER FAMILY WEB SITE > http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~palmtreeqld > The Scottish Gaelic Association of Australia > http://www.ozgaelic.org/ >

    2. David Collyer
    3. Dear Friends & Cousins, I know this is not strictly genealogy, but thought many of you would be interested to hear of my forthcoming concert. On July 18th and 25th I am conducting a great concert here in Ballarat and at Daylesford (Victoria, Australia). THe concert is to celebrate the development of music within the Methodist church as it's John Wesley's 301st birthday this year. I will be giving a commentary on the works performed and will of course mention the Isle of Wight as a stronghold of Methodism. My own Gt Gt grandfather, Edward COLLYER of Brooke, was the first methodist Lay preacher here at Rokewood Junction after his arrival in 1855. Somewhat incongruously \, he also ran the first hotel! We spent an exhausting evening tonight recording the entire show in a studio, so if any of you are interest in CDs, email me privately for a list of the tracks and the prices (very cheap :) Love David in Ballarat

Often in the past when I have visited my local LDS with similar numbers to order films I am told that it is impossible as the individual numbers contain thousands of records. 3. But surely this would only be back to Noah, not Adam and Eve ;-) Though I think tracing back from Noah to Adam is possible, though primary sources are somewhat sketchy. 1. HEARN, Hazeley Farm, IOW.
    2. Peter Gawn
    3. In researching the history of shipbuilding at Fishbourne, Isle of Wight, I have come across references to Brown Hearn of Hazeley Farm. The main shipbuilding family at Fishbourne in the first half of the 19th century was LIST. James BRAIN , a List son-in-law, also worked in the shipyard. The Lists leased the land for the shipbuilding yard from the prominent FLEMING family of Stoneham Park, Hampshire, and Binstead parish, IOW. On October 11 1813 John and Elizabeth Fleming leased the Fishouse (the old name for Fishbourne) house, land and shipbuilder's yard to James and Daniel List. Included in the lease as a lessee was Brown Hearn, yeoman, aged about 16 (born 1797?), of Hazeley Farm, son of Brown Hearn. This lease was renewed in 1837, the lessees then being Daniel List, James, Brain and the same Brown Hearn, yeoman, then aged 40. I've found no indication that Brown Hearn was involved in shipbuilding or that he was connected to the Lists by marriage or business. It seems likely that Hazeley Farm was part of Heasley Manor, about five miles south of Fishbourne. I suppose it's possible the Hearns were leasing the farm from the Flemings and that the Fishouse land was attached in some way to the farm and that Hearn's participation in the lease was thus required. I've come across references to four other HEARN: - In the 1780s(?) William Hearn of Heazley was owner with James Burton and Joseph Tarver of some of the land of Fernhouse, later Fernhill, above Wootton Bridge (IOW FHS Journal No. 41, p.23). - In 1798 Thomas Hearn was a meal man in Newport (Universal British Directory). - Thomas Hearn married Ann Joliffe (b: 13 Dec 1692 in Gatcombe), 20 Mar 1715/16 (in Isle of Wight?). - Ann Hearn married James Joliffe 15 Oct 1751 (in Isle of Wight?). Does anybody know anything about: - Brown Hearn; - Hazeley Farm? Thanks, Peter Gawn Sechelt, B.C. Canada.

This is quite interesting - I have only one Sophia FLEMING in my records (see http://www.searle.org.uk/IoW-CRO/Fleming.html). She was baptised at Arreton on 18 September 1853 (daughter of Henry and Mary FLEMING of Wootton Common), and then married to Frederick Hollie HOGG (son of James) on 20 June 1874 at Arreton. The marriage also shows up in the IoW FHS listings. I don't know how much this helps you. Regards, Dave Searle http://www.searle.org.uk
