    2. ANNE SHILTON
    3. Hi List, I have a William Griffiths born 1876 in Yarmouth, he is my great uncle, and I can't seem to find out anything about him. I have a marriage for a William from the IWFHS to an Alphemia Bonsor, I have her with various spellings of her first name including Alphena. Can anybody tell me if this is my William whose parents were James Andrews Griffiths and Janetta Sarah Williams. I have looked on the War Graves site and there are, obviously, a lot of William Griffiths who died in WW1, but as I don't know what regiment if any he was in, I can't confirm anything. Is his name on the War Memorial in Yarmouth perhaps. I have done so well on this line thanks to dear Ann Barrett helping with the brick walls, to even having a visit last week from a distant cousin from Australia, now that is worth all the effort we put into genealogy. Any help or advice would be very welcome. Thanks Anne Shilton

    1. William Smith 1861 Census
    2. Robert Berry
    3. Hello IOW list, Does anyone have access to the 1861 census of Yaverland. I'm trying to determine the background to one William Smith (Occupation Excavator) aged approx 29 years. Was he living with his parents at the time in Yaverland? According to later census records he was born in Norfolk. William's father was Robert Smith according to the Marriage Certificate of William to Rachel Woodmore on 6th October 1862 at the Parish Church Yaverland. 1. HAYLES and BISHOP
    2. Joan Myers
    3. Hello List, I'm taking the opportunity of a lull in list activity to try once again to break through my HAYLES brick wall. There must be some more HAYLES'S from Shalfleet that I have not yet found on line. So far I have traced my line back to William HAYLES abt. 1772 and Sarah BISHOP abt. 1776. These two were married in Shalfleet on 20 July 1797. They produced four children one of whom was William, bap. 12 June 1798. Unfortunately I cannot find parents for William HAYLES abt. 1772 or for his wife Sarah BISHOP abt. 1776. There must be some other descendants of this couple. Please check your HAYLES and BISHOP family trees. I would love to hear from you. Joan Myers.

    3. nor me. But then as of 5 September, several of my rootsweb genealogy lists seem to have stopped sending listmail to me : ) -- Bristol-Somerset and Devon L to name a couple. This seems to be connected to the installation of MS Security Patch 2, it happened right after this - have heard since that many people have had problems with their computers since installing that security patch! Have since un-installed the patch, but my settings haven't gone back to how they were before, and I don't know what to do about it. Not that I mind about the 2 lists mentioned , as had been thinking of signing off anyway, as haven't been working on family history all summer. Am getting much more pleasure/gratification from the Lens Flare online digital photography site : ) plus my new digital camera and taking photos & submitting pics to that site. all the best, Alandra please visit my photo "gallery" at: http://www.thelensflare.com/u_alandrapal.php ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eileen price" <petsearch@bigwig.net> To: <ISLE-OF-WIGHT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 25, 2004 1:53 PM Subject: [IoW] Problems with the list > Neither have I !!! > >

    3. This is a new site with thousands of names etc from all the countries who took part in OPERATION MARKET GARDEN the airborne landing at Arnheim 60 years ago this week. http://www.marketgarden.com/new/dbase.php Unfortunately the search box does not go to a surname but to the start of the list in the British section. The links on the side may not highlight but they do work. A wonderful laid out website, turn up the sound to listen to the background music. 1. Something to share: COOPER - HARDING - BUTCHER - SETH - SAUNDERS
    2. Ron Cooper
    3. Hi List, When my family emigrated - to Tasmania (Australia) we were sponsored by Desmond Thomas "Tom" W. Harding & Anna Marion Harding nee Butcher. My grandmother sent my mother the following clipping from the IOW Mercury, thought you may like to share: From the "Isle of Wight Mercury" Friday, February 3, 1956. Echoes of the Week Almost Mass Emigration! Mr. Fred Cooper and his wife, Beryl, and their three children, David (8), Ronald (6) and Grahame (4) sailed for Southampton on Wednesday on the "New Australia", (formerly the "Monarch of Bermuda"). They formerly lived at Rowanhurst, St. Catherine's Street. The vessel calls at Port Said, Colombo and Freemantle, West Australia and is due into Melbourne on March 1st, 1956. The Cooper's then travel on to Penguin, Tasmania where they will be met by Mr. and Mrs. D. T. W. Harding who left Ventnor in December 1949. Mr. Harding is in the building trade, and Mr. Cooper is joining him, thus going back into his old trade of plumbing and general building. The Cooper family would like to say goodbye to any friends they may have missed seeing personally. Also sailing on the same ship is Mr. J. J. Seth, formerly a master at the Secondary School, and his wife and family. They have been living at Spring Gardens. Readers will join with us in extending best wishes to the two families in their new lives. As reported in our last issue, Mr. Ronald Saunders, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Saunders, St. Lawrence, was due to sail from London yesterday. He is also bound for Tasmania, where he was married in October last. Mr. Saunders is going to take up an engineering appointment. _____________________ Regards, Ron Cooper Land of Oz
