Last summer I started reaching out to all DORE researchers and would like to again ask for people to chime in. My goal is to sift thru all the numerous Dore families and organize contacts for about 4 main groups. Please review the surnames and let me know where you think yours belongthe focus is mostly prior to 1850Im happy to share contact info and/or email records that might help further everyones research. I want to see DOREs documented from IOW and hopefully if we all cooperate we can push this along! Group A These are DOREs mostly out of Norton, Freshwater & Yarmouthespecially those that married into Atkins, Boyer, Brett, Bright, Cammel, Comes, Dibbens, Gould, Groves, Gunn, Guy, Keat, Kent, Pell, Ralfs, Toogood, Williams, Woodford, Group B This is another DORE group from approximately the same area (Norton, Freshwater & Yarmouth) but we cannot figure out a link includes marriages into Allen, Baldwin, Brett, Capell or Cassell, Day, Dickenson, Galpen, Gunn, Gyer, Harvey, Johnson, Jollifffe, Lacey or Lacy, Lane, Moorey, Percy, Mitchell, Passey, Potter, Richards, Salter, Scovell, Shilton, Snow, Steeven, Theobald, Toogood, Trickett, Waite, Wall, White, Willyar, Woodford, Group C Another DORE line that is mostly from a different location (Brook, Shalfleet, Brixton) would be Dores that married into Adams, Atkey, Cheverton, Crew, Dallimore, Dyer, Granger, Hollis, Holston, Horlock, Jacobs, Lovett, Manns, Pickerel, Pleyer, Snuddden, Thearll ,Ward, Group D This is going to be the miscellaneous filefor any and all DORE families that we just havent figured out where they belong. The only qualification Id ask for is that families are on the IOW prior to 1850names we are finding include marriages into Allen, Butcher, Cheek or Chick, Collyer or Collier, Cooke, Downer, Dunning, Harvey, Hawkins, Hookey, Leal, Matthews, Slater, Smith, Snudden, Stone, Wareham, Wheeler Sandy in Sacramento Homepage http://home.earthlink.net/~sandymento/

Hi All, Blimey! That's an old English expression you don't hear much these days! I was amusing myself, as one does on a rainy Melbourne Cup Day Public Holiday, by rummaging through the IOW FHS for the name KING for a recent IOW acquaintance who spotted my old list of names for RANN... Did you know that in the period from 1837 to 2000, there were 671 marriages recorded for the name KING, of which 545 were new family names, married into the KING Family? How about that - and I thought my name (COOPER) was pretty common! Has anyone got any theories why there were so many KING families in IOW? Can they all have been followers or relatives from Osborne House? If anyone is interested in contacting me off list for KING marriages, or would prefer me to publish (progressively) the names, I'd be happy to oblige. Regards, Ron Cooper

The name HOLLIS, having reappeared on the List, prompts me to ask, again, if anyone has reference to Emma HOLLIS (nee BAKER, who married Captain Joseph DALLIMORE in 1864 at Newchurch Church). I have information relating to their life together, their two children and the fact that they separated (the scond child, Jessie, died when only a few months old). Joseph DALLIMORE died in Australia; Emma's fate is unknown.... Helen Martin (Dallimore)
I was wondering about those in the southern hemisphere, whether the Daylight Savings Time worked the opposite. I guess it does. David, understand you had an operation. Hi all, from the USA. The only clocks I didn't have to change were (a) clocks on my computers - already set to change automatically, and (b) my "radio-controlled" watch, which resets itself every night to NIST standard time by tuning in to Fort Collins, Colorado. I wonder if there is a similar service in Britain, e.g. tuning to GBR? We only had one couple turn up an hour early for church on Sunday! Still searching for PHILLIPS in IOW. Most of my ancestry is in Hampshire and Kent, some in Sussex, and PHILLIPS came from Surrey originally. Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA.

I am researching my family – SINNICKS. My grandfather and two of his siblings came to Canada from East Cowes abt. 1911. One of the sisters, Ada Sinnicks (born Millmore prior to parents marriage), raised her neice, Olive WEEKS here in Canada and Olive remained here until her passing two years ago (she was in her 90’s). I am unclear as to the total number of siblings in this family – I have knowledge of the 4 boys (having an uncommon surname helps greatly) and of the sister who emmigrated, however I have had more difficulty in finding other the girls. I am wondering if the Lucy Elizabeth Pinnick could be Lucy Elizabeth Sinnicks. The time frame and church of marriage certainly work with the information that I have. Perhaps more information with respect to the marriage (witnesses in particular) might be helpful. Kathy Morningstar Canada --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I'm a new lister and wonder if any kind person could look on the 1851 and 1861 census for me for John Harford and his wife Ann. I have located them on the 1871 census living in Newport with their children and would expect in 1861 for them to be listed with son John, daughter Honora and possibly son Felix (who was 10 on the 1871 census). Son John should also be on the 1851 census aged 4. Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. Susan

> Hello Derek, > > I saw various WEEKS mentioned in your recent I.oW connections. Other than the George WEEKS who married my Gt Grandmother the only other George we have is George Henry, born in Cowes in 1843, his mother's maiden name was ELDRIDGE. WEEKS are only on the family tree because of the above mentioned marriage. My Gt Grandmother was always known by my father and his siblings, as "Granny Weeks" as they were all led to believe she had been widowed with a small son -my Grandfather. It was my wife and I who unearthed the fact that she had given birth to my Grandfather out of wedlock and it is her maiden name we still have. Imagine how many irate pigeon feathers became ruffled when that 'cat' was dropped amongst them!! Many of my Island cousins have disowned me! Happy hunting Derek
