    1. SALTER connection.
    2. Now the other names like RATFORD and WOODYEAR and GLASBY are pretty thin on the ground on IOW but SALTERS seem somewhat more prolific!! I'm after info and family of an ANN SALTER who married THOMAS GLASBY sometime in 1789 according to IGI. Whoever it was who did the Glasby family only submitted years not actual dates which seems a bit of a waste of time to me, but then again it's a starting point I guess, and something s better than nothing!! Would dearly love to hear from you if you can throw any light on this young lady! Cheers Adrienne

    1. RATFORD connection.
    2. Rather than put everything in one email, I'm dividing it up into other names the family married into to try and attract more researchers who may be somehow connected to this family. This time it's the wife of the first known GLASBY on the IOW - CHARLES GLASBY and his wife MARY RATFORD who married NEWCHURCH sometime in 1766. I'm assuming that either this date is incorrect and may have been 1760 or that their was another earlier wife who was the mother of THOMAS GLASBY who I'm told was christened 19 October 1760!! Cheers Adrienne

    1. WOODYEAR connection??
    2. Greetings again, this time I'm interested to find the family of a stray GLASBY by the name of GEOERGE WOODYEAR GLASBY who married a SARAH TURNER 1837 St JOHN, NORTHWOOD. It would appear his mother was a WOODYEAR but who?? and which Glasby did she marry?? Sometimes George's surname is spelt GLASSBY. Cheers Adrienne

    1. CLASBY to GLASBEY
    2. Kia Ora (Greetings from a new New Zaland lister!) I am researching one of my husbands ancestors at present by the name of GLASBY. They were originally CLASBY from Ringwood but with the relocation the initial letter somehow got changed. We know that this is really what happened as there is a will to prove it. Now I have started a website for this Glasbey crowd that settled on the ISLE of WIGHT if anyone is interestted in this family at http://AdeInNelson.homestead.com/ What I am after is some help with access to info on this family from the 1851, 1861 and 1841 cencus and also anyone with access to Parish Records from the parish churches they appear to have used for their christenings and marriages - namely NEWCHURCH and later some at ST HELENS. I am unable to order these films from a Family History library as I am presently living on a remote island off the NZ coast. I have looked at the IOW genealogy web site and found their BMD pages which were very helpful. I have also checked all other usual online resources such as Rootsweb free BMD and free cencus, 1881 and 1901 cencuses and IGI, Family Connect etc. Any assistance most greatfully received. You might even find something of interest to you on my website that has numerous postcards of old churches in NZ, Aussie and GB as well as other old postcards of areas of interest to me - eg Bampton in Devon. Cheers Adrienne

    1. BROWN FAMILY
    2. Jacqui Phillips
    3. I am new to the list, and saw the cry for those searching for BROWNS. We have been trying to find my great grandmother's birth for some decades now without success. Can anyone throw any light on her?? She was ELLEN BROWN, but according to my grandmother she was originally called AILEEN and her mother was EVA COOPER. Her birthday was 24th August and would have been born in either 1865/6. On Ellen's marriage certificate to FRANK PIPER(Islington 1891) her father is listed as CHARLES BENJAMIN BROWN (Parcels Clerk). The 1891 and 1901 census give her birth place as Ryde, IOW. Any clues, however small would be most gratefully received to help solve the mystery of the woman who married, had eight children and lived with my mother and her family for many years, but apparently was never born! Jacqui Phillips

    1. [IoW] Certificates - A silly question
    2. David & Suzanne
    3. Hello Listers A very silly finicky question here I'm afraid! Does the IOW Registry Office issue certificates that look exactly the same as the GRO certificates . . . as I like them to sort of match . . . please don't laugh! My great-grandfather does not appear in the GRO list, but HURRAH! does exist on the IOW list! Best Wishes Suzanne

    3. Dear Isle-of-Wight Subscribers, List messages are beginning to filter through again. The current information at < http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ > says: Mail Lists: 2004-11-15 All visitors please read this message. The repair of the digests has seemed to have occurred unhindered and with only several inconsequential anomalies. We are currently putting the queued mail through the mailing list server (lists5) in a roughly chronological order. This will take some time as we step through the backlog on the mailhub, we continue to monitor the processes on the list server as the mail is fed through. We hope that you are enjoying your revived mail. Older message We are currently cycling queued mail into the broken digests and you should see these digests being delivered through the next day. You may note that there will be some duplication of digests numbers, and may be the odd post within these. From our point of view this is not a concern and a minor trade off for ensuring that the mail makes the searchable archives I suggest that we hold back from posting multiple messages for a few more days, but a few posts will be fine even if they are delayed for a while.
