A little girl asked her mother, 'How did the human race appear?' The mother answered, 'God made Adam and Eve and they had children and that's how all mankind was made.' Two days later the girl asked her father the same question. The father answered, 'Many years ago there were monkeys, from which the human race evolved.' The confused girl returned to her mother and said, 'Mom, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God, and Dad said they developed from monkeys?' The mother answered, 'Well, dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and your father told you about his.

Makes you wonder where the husband was while all this was going on Angela Hannah RANN, a young married woman, and wife of Edward RANN, brewers labourer, of Carisbrooke, was charged with assaulting, ill treating, and neglecting a certain male child, aged 12 years. The son of her husbands former wife named George RANN. The evidence disclosed such a continued and systematic course of cruelty, the poor boy being worn down to a mere skeleton for want of food, his body covered with the marks of blows and bruises, that the Court committed her to take trial at the session. As an instance of her excessive punishment for a trifling offence, it was proved that on the Thursday preceding she kept him naked in a tub of cold water for a considerable time, with the temperature at 24c and until the neighbours released him by force. On the same day, when PC Lawlor paid a visit to his bedroom the poor child had only a wet sack to lie on the floor boards and a small piece of patchwork to cover him, whilst her own child was comfortably provided for, Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig. Poor lad 5 Jan 1861 Hampshire Telegraph A fine young fellow of the age of 21 , was unfortunately killed the day before by a companion, named Edward MORRIS, blacksmith residing in the village. It appeared by the evidence that the latter, having some errand to convey to Lake, another village adjoining, the deceased offered to accompany him. Morris having loaded his gun for the purpose of shooting small birds along the road, but meeting with no success in that line, he entered a field on their return home, but seeing no birds within reach he returned to the lane where he had left Matthews, and in making his way through the hurdle, the dock of the gun by some means became entangled therein. The piece went off and the whole of the charge was lodged in the neck and face of the deceased, who fell on the ground and never spoke or moved afterwards, several of the shots having entered the eyes and mouth. Medical aid was in vain, as the poor fellow only survived a half hour . Verdict accidental death Angela in Oz Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig. Thelma The surname is Lillycrapp In 1861 they are at Greenway Lane, Staplegrove (Bristol) Somerset where Mary A is shown as being from the "Ile White" [sic] RG9/1619/f62/p5. At least in 1871 she is from the Isle of Wight, though still nothing more specific (RG10/2375/65/15). I suspect this is Mary Ann Hatherly who married Charles Lillycrap in Taunton Reg district in 1844.
