Looking for a photo of Lucy Jane COOPER. Born 1858, Ryde, died in 1st November, 1950. (husband was James Henry Arthur WILSON). I know there are a quite a few COOPERS that were on the IOW, so someone oughta have a picture that could pass onto me... please. None of the family today seem to have a photo of her, so really hoping someone on the WWW does. Thanks, Bobby.

Oh Angela i am so! sorry. Sending positive thoughts to help you all through this painful time. take care Lesley
Thanks to all those who have given me advice. The Isle of Wight seems particularly difficult to search on Ancestry since there is no "Isle of Wight" county and "Hampshire" does not seem to turn up the Isle of Wight entries. The BMD section on the Isle of Wight Family History site was particularly useful as there is information there on location. My relatives seem to have been non-conformists living in Ryde. Regards Peter

In case you are not aware there is a CREETH family website http://www.your-family-history.com/c/creeth-family-history.php The reason I did a Google search for the name is that at one time I know there was a business by the same name in Seaview, Isle of Wight. I believe the Westridge Builders (Ball family) bought them out but still maintained the name for a while. Arising out of my search I found that they might have a connection in Ireland http://www.dublin1850.com/dublin1850/xdubdir17.html There are two of the CREETH name in this site where you can view an inscription. http://www.bob-sinton.com/headstones/richhill/names.php?id=3 There are also miscellaneous CREETH Monuments listed here http://search.freefind.com/find.html?id=35651711&pid=r&mode=ALL&n=0&query=Creeth Some names listed here with a reference to emigration http://www.ancestryireland.com/data/directory/Directory.pdf I think you might find more. Hope these help. Hello all, I am new to the list. My primary interest in the region is FARRANT. My FARRANT family came from Thorncombe and Axminster on the Devon/Dorset of the border, however, at least two branches settled on the Isle of Wight for a while. The first were the family of John FARRANT and Mary Ann COCHRANE. John was a shoemaker and was born c.1807 in Thorncombe. Mary Ann was his second wife, born circa 1817 in Silverton Devon, according to her marriage certificate she was the daughter a soldier named Simon Cochrane but I know nothing more on the Cochranes. John and Mary Ann wandered around the South of England including during the late 1850s the Isle of Wight. One of their children, Samuel, was born there (Assumed to be GRO 1857Q4 Isle of Wight 2b/459). The other branch of the family with known connections is John FARRANT's cousin, Lucy Ann FARRANT. I believe Lucy Ann (b.c.1821,Thorncombe) married a William CUTLER a carpenter from Ryde (GRO 1847Q2 Isle of Wight, Hampshire Vol 8 Page 348) and lived there until her death in 1876 (GRO 1876Q4 Isle of Wight, Hampshire Vol 2b). Lucy Ann also had a brother, Champness, who settled just across the Solent in Southampton. I wondered whether there was anybody in the group who shared these interests and also please could somebody advise me whether there were any Isle of Wight sources avaiable on line. Many thanks Peter

I just had to post this for our American cousins :-) News from London 1870 "Chillicothe Row" is a new American dish, whereof the ingredients are one prairie chicken boiled toast, two dozen fried oysters, seventeen gizzards, and as many livers stewed with tomatoes, two pounds of beefstakes, and a quart of coffee, stirred up 'and moistened with a hot apple toddy. No wonder our cousins have such a prononced yellow colour' Sorry can't stop laughing Angela in Oz Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig. Just in case I missed anyone out from my personal replies, I'd just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who responded by my query about my Jacobs family members and the vessel "Sappho", and it's possible connection with the America's Cup. I've been given lots of pointers and have some lines of enquiry to follow up over the next weeks. Thanks and Regards Alison Hargreaves, Swindon, UK
Hello I am a new member wondering if anyone is researching a WHITE family from Newport. Currently the little information I have regarding the IOW is that Thomas WHITE and his wife Susannah? both claimed Newport as their place of birth. I find the couple in Southampton in 1841 (32), and Susannah (29) with children Samuel (9), William (8), Mary Susannah (5) and Harriet (2). My interest is in William who marries a Caroline in 1854. Any help appreciated. Kate
