    3. Gill, I have a Lane family line from the Isle of Wight. Wondered if they might be connected. Martha Lane, b 18 Oct 1816, Father William Lane, b 20 Jul 1784, Mother Elizabeth Parish, b. 18 dec 1791, gfather: James Lane, b 30 Mar 1730, ggfather: William Lane, b. 5 Jul 1668. 1. [IoW] Fwd: Arthur Frederick DUTCH
    2. Thanks to mary lou and ann for their replies. Unfortunately neither of these are the ones I am looking for. Arthur Frank and Alfred Percy were my husband's uncle and father respectively. I can follow them both through to 1944 & 1973. Arthur Frederick was (I think) the eldest son of Arthur Dutch (b abt 1864) and Ada Goddard (b abt 1875) and in the 1901 census he was with his grandmother. Just had a thought and have checked the IOWFHS bmd and he was registered as GODDARD,Arthur,Frederick,Dutch. He was obviously born before parents were married. I still have the problem of how he died and would be grateful for any suggestions or advice as to how to find the cause of accident.death. It was possibly an accident on the ice. Cannot seem to find any links to newspapers from 1903. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance Aileen

    3. Many thanks to all the people who responded to my request. I now know why I couldn't find Richard on my 1881 census disks - he is recorded as Richard _*Law *_not Lane. He was obviously living with his eldest daughter Sarah A. I suspected as much but didn't know who she had married. Gill -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. 3. Hi all - new to this list. I'd forgotten how messy the digests are to read but it's still the best way for me to catch up. I am researching Pyle Street (and the roads that go/went off it) in Newport and am looking for any general information that might help. I have transcribed the censuses for the street back as far as 1871 and have just started on the 1861 list. I am also working my way through the trade directories. I am particularly interested in old photographs (even as recent as the late 20th century!) and any family _history _(rather than trees), anecdotes, memories, etc. The only family I have started to look at so far is the Read family who ran The Wheatsheaf in St Thomas' Square. Any information gratefully received. And if you think I might have any information that will be useful to you, please ask. P

    3. I would be grateful if someone could do a lookup for me in the 1871 census. I am looking for *Richard Lane *b.abt 1812 West Cowes. In 1861 he was a widower aged 48 living in Northwood with his 2 daughters Sarah A. & Harriet and his 3 sons William, George & Walter. I've had no luck finding him in the 1881 census either although he didn't die until 1890. Gill -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. Next door locked herself out and asked him this morning if he could climb up a ladder and in through her upstairs window. She was suppose to hold the ladder for him and didn't and down he came and is now in casualty having a badly sprained ankle and chipped elbow seen to ! 3. My Prayers are with you. I had the main artery blow out in 1884, and am very lucky to still be here. I took them 13 day to decide that I really did not have a nose bleed [DUH]. I have about 9 clamps 3 inches deep into my face holding it together. No more MRI's because of the clamps. Unless they bleed out like mine, there is usually no warning. Again, my prayers are with him. Pat Corney

    3. For those with Australian connections - ancestry.com is to release 8.9 million names of passengers and crew who arrived in NSW as free settlers between 1826 and 1922. Collection will be launched this Wednesday. I have access to ancestry but won't be able to do any look ups until next week at earliest. I'll be curious to see how much info the records will obtain not that I have any that earlier , my family came out in 1963.
