    3. I am looking for any information on the Maskew families that lived on the Isle of Wight as late as the early 1900s. My mother's paternal grandfather was Gilbert Maskew, who came from Britian around 1904. He was married to a Seymour. A cousin has photos of the Maskew family with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in front of the " Maskew Home" on their estate. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for you help with this. 3. A photograph taken by my father in March 1970 shows “Mr and Mrs H Coombes at 21 King Street, BINSTEAD, IOW” (Should it be Kings Road? – see below) He was possibly Henry (Harry) Edmund COOMBES born 23 Feb 1891 Godshill R S D per Birth Certificate son of Clement COOMBES (Mason Journeyman) and Ellen Eliza COOMBES formerly WHITEWOOD. Birth registered 9 April 1891 Godshill IOW UK This Clement COOMBS was a son of Maria MILLMORE and Edmund BLAKE There is a newspaper cutting, undated, (but after 1976 when I met him) which states “Harry Coombes dies at 87 An exhibitor at island gardening shows, Mr Harry Edmund Coombes, has died at his home in Kings Road, Binstead, aged 87. Until recent years he was also a noted poultry breeder, and his greatest moment came some years ago when he won a national award at an exhibition at Olympia. He leaves a widow and a son by his first marriage. In his younger days he was an agricultural worker, but until he retired 21 years ago he worked as a delivery driver for the County Council. During World War I, he served as an artilleryman in Egypt, Mesopotamia and France winning the D.S.M. During World War II he was an air-raid warden at Ryde. He was a member of the Royal British Legion and had served as standard bearer to the former Binstead branch, now merged with Ryde.” His second marriage date was 21 Feb 1963 A photograph on the day, outside the Church shows “Harry and bride (these names written in Harry’s writing) Brother George His 3rd son, Ken George Grover and his wife” There is a record of a Ken Coombes marrying in May 1954 to Elizabeth Ann HISCOCK. Is this the same person? Does anyone know the whereabouts of any family connections? Harry was my Grand-mother’s Cousin. Greetings to friends and relatives. 1. [IoW] Offer of help
    2. I am sending this email in response to Keith's offer of help. I am researching a number of Isle of Wight families, in particular, Harry Morgan SHAW, born about 1815, who was living either in Lymington or the Isle of Wight in the early 1840's. He was a jeweller. He married Mary Ann WAY, born about 1818, in 1840. She was the daughter of David WAY, born 1792 and Hannah ?. In the 1851 census Mary Ann is living with her parents at Calbourne Mill, with her son Sydney David SHAW. There is no sign of Harry Morgan at all. Sydney David was actually born in 1847 in Westerham in Kent, apparently the son of a Henry SHAWE and Mary Ann SHAWE (nee WAY) where Henry was a grocer. Harry Morgan was the illegitimate son of Thomas SHAW and Mary MORGAN. Any further information regarding Harry Morgan SHAW would be very welcome, plus the surname of Mary Ann's mother. All I have is that David WAY married a Hannah ? in 1818. Thanks for any help you could let me have. 2. David in Ballarat
    3. Dear Friends & Cousins, Many thanks for all your kind wishes on my 60th birthday. Although it's not actually for another 10 minutes (July 22nd) we had the big family party yesterday here in Ballarat. It was a wonderfully exhausting day and I was particularly thrilled and surprised to see my elder sister Raie from Hobart, Tasmania, and 2 ex-army mates who were with me in Vietnam in 1970. Rick AVERY and his partner Barb had driven some 12 hours down from Parkes, NSW and Peter LOCKE (not one of ours) had driven with his partner Jude up from Anakie near Geelong. Heaps of wonderful gifts and enough vodka to last me for a few weeks :) I've recently been catching up on the IOW FHS journals and am preparing a list of queries etc for the forthcoming weeks. What a most worthwhile journal it is. David COLLYER in Ballarat

    3. I have the Hackman CD (vol HAM 16 - HAM 20) and the Phillimore Marrriages CD for Hampshire. I didn't really learn anything new from them - they simply confirmed information I had already found at familysearch.org. The Hackman CD has quite a limited time-frame (mostly 1780-1812).   Is there a particular name you are looking for? I could have a quick look. One of them is indexed - I can't remember which one, but I could have a quick peek at that for you. Though I am not offering to trawl through the un-indexed one!   Kind regards,   Kathy --- On Sat, 19/7/08, S HARRISON <[email protected]> wrote: From: S HARRISON <[email protected]> Subject: [IoW] Parish Register Transcriptions To: [email protected] Received: Saturday, 19 July, 2008, 4:23 AM Hello Everyone.
