    3. Hi to all Isle-of-Wight subscribers, As has been mentioned before, Ancestry.com is shutting down all the RootsWeb mailing lists. The lists will be closed to subscribers and owners (administrators.) The Archives will remain accessible at https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/Isle-of-Wight@rootsweb.com/ I have sent an invitation to all the current subscribers, so please respond to that invite if you want to join us in our new home at https://groups.io/g/Isle-of-Wight There will be some further set-up of the new group (there are a lot of options.) Please do let me know at Isle-of-Wight+owner at groups.io if the wording can be improved. 3. Hi Beverly, William WILLIER and Joan COTTON were my 10th great grandparents. I have got copies of both of their wills and also a copy of William’s father, Richard WILLIER’s will. For example Benjamin Whylliar (in many entries) left a 1751 will as Benjamin Wheeler of Freshwater. William Willier md 1587 to Joan Cotton is one of my ancestors and left a will with name Willyer. I have transcribed the Freshwater parish register and it is on the Isle of Wight Family History Website. I also have copies of many of the Wheeler wills. 1. [IoW] David SIMMONDS born 1771
    2. Christine Tregonning
    3. Hello, I am a descendant of the JOBLIN family who emigrated to New Zealand from the Isle of Wight in the 1860s. James JOBLIN married Jane SYMMANS at St Boniface in 1820. Jane was born in 1802 to James SYMMANS and Jane SEARLE (SALE). The surname SYMMANS has been variously recorded as SIMMONDS and SYMONDS. I would like to find the link between Jane SYMMANS and David SYMONDS or SIMMONDS who was born on the Isle of Wight about 1771 and died at Portsea in 1854. I can find David and his family in the various census records but I have been unable to find a record of his birth or baptism. David married Priscilla BUSHELL at Portsea in 1796. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Christine

    3. Judi I'm struggling a bit because your original message has not been delivered by rootsweb, so I could only read it from the rootsweb archive but I understand you are looking for a digital copy of the gravestones of Elizabeth and Hannah Wallbridge (Elizabeth being "The Dairymans Daughter"). There are already photographic copies of the gravestones online. You can find Elizabeth's headstone picture on FindaGrave (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/110193242/). The memorial has been incorrectly associated with Brading Parish Church (St Mary the Virgin), possibly due to confusion of the Revd Legh Richmond (author of the religious pamphlet) being the Rector of Brading. I have submitted a suggested edit to FindaGrave to fix this. You may be able to get a better resolution picture from the Contributor. If you have an Ancestry subscription you can also find photographs of the two headstones if you search for Elizabeth Wallbridge in "Public Member Photos & Scanned Documents". The online documents are not of high enough quality to easily read the inscriptions, and in Hannah's case I don't think there is much there that is legible anyway. 3. April, Where did Henry and Rose Ellen live in New York? Was it in the New York City area or upstate New York? If it was in the NYC area, death records can be difficult to track down since they were handled by the burroughs/counties not the state. Also, most US records will only indicate country of birth on a death record and not exact place (especially if the informant on the death certificate did not know). What was the last US census they were in for sure? Was it the 1940? Ages in US censuses are a lot of times an approximation since people lied, the people giving the information (next door neighbors, etc) didn't know exactly and other excuses. 3. Just throwing out a general question. Is there anyone who has researched their family line of two PLUMLEY s   Henry and Rose Ellen (same name as Henrys sister) who  married 30th July 1888 and then  Henry changed his name from PLUMLEY to MORRIS after his natural MORRIS father finally married his mother who was a PLUMLEY too.   I have  a copy of Henry and Rose Ellen marriage certificate, which caused a lot of confusion at the start as you can guess especially as his natural sister had the same name as his bride. Henry and his bride emigrated to New York at the end of the 1891.  As much as I have researched over the years, it has been very difficult to locate their exact deaths in New York. The house they bought over there was finally razed in a scheme to  make way for a wider road. It is after then that I have lost where they both lived and died. They made several trips back to the Isle-of-Wight and on their voyages their ages often changed on the ships  passenger lists.   In  New York death lists  it did not always indicate the date of births , or where they were born, of either a Henry ot Rose Ellen  Morris deaths. On the last known US census when they lived at the house that was razed, their ages are given as both being 70 years when, for certain, there was a 2-3 years age gap. Thoroughly confused??  Me too.   It was through the dedicated kindness of Vanessa Marshall a few years back  that unravelled their births  and the reason why the same surname  appears on the marriage certificate To wrap things up it would be good to know if any descents  have been successful in finding those elusive deaths.  Has anyone else researched them?? Kind regard. April Clark    (nee MORRIS)  on the south coast of Hampshire
