Hi Linda. Am finding all this on Barry White's pages, which contain loads of transcribed records from Thanet. That, and some information from Family Search result in a pretty clear picture. I doubt whether the double marriage of Jane Bishop is a transcription error, but yes, somebody would have to look in the actual records to be completely sure. And I live in The Netherlands .. :( There are very few Wayhalls or Wayhills to be found in the area, but Minster on Thanet and Monkton do have records for Whales, Wales and Whale. I'm still pretty sure the name got corrupted, although there are records for Wayhill baptisms and marriages in later times in Margate. Maybe one branch of the family decided to stick with the corrupted name. Also, I'm fairly certain that the two Whales families coming together in my ancestors - the marriage between Stephen Wales and Hannah Whales in 1870 - are originally one and the same family. Possibly both branches originated from the two marriages with offspring from John Whale(s) or from his brothers William and Nathaniel. It still needs some looking into. If and when I find more I'll put it on the website. Warm regards, Kya Linda Wales <cleavefarm@btinternet.com> wrote: Hi Kya, this all looks very interesting, where are you finding all this information? Are you looking at records, or is this from website? I too found Stephen and James both 'marrying' Jane Bishop, but I have not confirmed this with actual recods yet, so thought it COULD be just an error in transcription. Would be interested to know if you have checked original. The Wayhill connection sounds interesting though. I have always thought that our ancestor originally came to Thanet 'from Wales' and would have been referred to as Tom Dick or Harry 'of Wales' which then became corrupted as just Tom Wales.... Also.. about births just after marriage... Not only the wealthy did this. The poor old ag lab would often became betrothed to his beloved, and they would live together as man and wife, quite happily, but not necessarily tying the know until their next day off... which in those days came few and far between, hence so many marriages at Christmas!!!
