    3. Can anyone tell me the significance (if any) of being Lord of the Manor in the 1800's? I have found a relative who was such for St Lawrence. Are there records kept of who was a Lord of the Manor, and was the title inherited? The one I am after is Edward Wales (Whales) who was born in Acol in 1797. Baptised in Birchington in 1797. Many thanks. Linda

    3. How did you come to the conclusion Edward Wales was Lord of The Manor? Would love to know. Are you sure he wasn't living at Lord of the Manor near Manston. Look forward to hearing from you. 3. Lord of the Manor is now mostly known as a double roundabout on the outskirts of Ramsgate. I can see it from my top step !! :o) It's the main road out of Ramsgate, leading to Deal, Dover & Sandwich in one direction, Haine, Margate & Broadstairs in another & Canterbury & the M2 motorway to wherever takes your fancy in another direction. Years ago, archaeologists found Anglo-Saxon burial in one of the fields & nowadays, there's often a circus there in the summer. It would have come under the St. Lawrence location - as did a lot of the other side of Ramsgate, such as Hereson. (Pronounced Here-son, not Herrason, as many people think.) What records do you have to prove your fella is Lord of the Manor ? If you could let us know, we might be able to help a bit more. It might just be that he lived at Lord of the Manor, you see !! :o) Pat.xxx :o)) A Maid of Kent, UK. Your county needs YOU !!! http://FreeCEN.rootsweb.com Looking for ancestors in Kent ?
