Hello list, I was wondering if any one knew about a place called Walthen (sp?) Hall in Monkton. My Amelia HAYWARD worked there as a house servant in 1861 for the COLLETT family just before she married Stephen FRIGHT in 1862. If nothing else I would like to know if I spelled it correctly? ~Elaine
In my 1847 Bradshaw, Geo Collett is shown as a famer in Monkton at Walter's Hill . If you look at the description of the ED for the 1861 census, it looks more like Walter's Hall, but in the 1851 census it's definitely Hall. In a much later Kelly's (1928) it's shown as Walter's Hall. Best wishes Elizabeth Er3pr@aol.com wrote: >Hello list, >I was wondering if any one knew about a place called Walthen (sp?) Hi Elaine, Could it be Walter's Hall ??? If so, it's still standing & is a farm. It's on the main road into Monkton from Minster.
