    2. suzannah.foad
    3. 23rd July 1924 Isle of Thanet Gazette William MACKIE was summoned for having, on the 18th July, at the King's Stairs, assaulted Arthur TWYMAN. He pleaded not guilty. TWYMAN said that on the 18th inst. he was working in connection with one of the motor boats, when MACKIE, without any provocation, struck him on the nose, making it bleed. He did not wish to press a case against MACKIE, he simply wanted protection. MACKIE denied striking TWYMAN and said he was negotiating with a party or the hire of a motor-boat, when TWYMAN, who was working in connection with another boat, interfered, and he told him to mind his own business. TWYMAN, who was under the influence of drink, ran away. He did not know what for, but he did not strike him. The Justice's Clerk said that TWYMAN went to his office immediately after the assault and he was then sober. Albert EMPTAGE gave evidence as to TWYMAN interfering with a party who wanted to hire a motor-boat privately, but he did not see anything done to TWYMAN. P.C Bartlett said that TWYMAN went to the Police Station Immediately after the assault, his nose bleeding and he was sober/ The magistrates having considered the case, the Chairman said they considered an Assault had been committed but as complainant did not wish to press the case, defendant would simply be bound over, in the sum of ten pounds, to keep the peace for six months, and he was ordered to pay 10s and 6d costs. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
