    3. 13th April 1929 Isle of Thanet Gazette The number of deaths which have occurred in Margate and District during the first three months of the present year, show an alarming increase on the corresponding figures of the fist three months of 1928. This year 170 deaths have been registered, as against 110 for the same period last year. This increase can be said to be almost entirely due to the epidemic of influenza and Pneumonia which has been prevalent throughout the Country. The last influenza epidemic which was in October, November and December of 1918 resulted in 171 deaths, almost the same number as this year. A singular disparity between the two attacks is that, whereas in 1918 people of all ages were among those seriously attacked, this yea that fatal seizures were chiefly among the older people. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
