Hi listers, In the 1851 census I have an enigma that has puzzled me for some while. In the census for Sussex, a John GRANT, born Sheerness circa 1807 appears with his wife Frances. The name, date and wife's name all are roughly consistent with what I know of a John GRANT who was born in Brighton and who appears there in the 1841 census. The whole family disappears by 1851. Would SKS please be able to advise me if there is indeed a matching birth / baptism for John GRANT in the Sheerness area around 1807. Any other useful information about GRANT's in the area would be very gratefully appreciated. Regards, Andy
Hi Andy, Sheerness is on the Isle of Sheppey, not the Isle of Thanet, so if you ask on the Kent list, you'll have a better chance of getting the help you require. Sheppey is about an hour's drive from Thanet these days, so in the *olden days*, it would have been a pretty long walk !! :o) Good luck !!
