Good Evening listers, I am writing an article on the Britannia Public House on Fort Hill in Margate. Known prior to 1901 as the Britannia Hotel. I have traced all the owners/managers from 1841-1891 from just the Census entries. I am looking to find some information on these landlords, namely Alfred Henry Grant c.1833-1904 and Robert Dunk Peal c.1805-1871. 1851 is Robert D Peal with Wife Jane. Again in 1861 but by 1871 he was widowed and living with his daughter Jane and son in law William Miles at another Public House the Belle Vue in Cliftonville until his death in Q Sept 1871. 1871 Census Alfred H Grant aged 38 is with his wife Sarah also aged 38 at the Britannia and also the 1881 and 1891 Census I am going to check the 1901 next. Does anyone have these people in their trees? Have any old memories of the Public House, its right next door to Margate Police Station which was built 1969, before that it was Cobb's Brewery. Legend, and I say legend as have not found anything to supports this, but the Britannia was supposedly Cobb's Hunting lodge before it was a public house. I have a good picture of the Pub with the Minstrels outside c.1870, but no others. Would be very grateful if anyone can assist. Many Thanks Suzannah
