A lot of people married in Portsea, it was at the far end of the coastguard run that covered Kent. I note that you had a connection to the Chatham as well, so a Naval/Coastguard connection is quite likely. I have ancestors who were living in Folkestone with their parents, then went to Portsea to marry their husbands. Someone who knows more about the Naval history may be able to say why Portsea was used.
