Isle of Thanet Oct 1917 Prisoner of War A Margate Man's Death Mrs A FOORD, of 67 Tivoli Road Margate, has just been notified by the Officer in charge of records at Hounslow, of the death from wounds of her husband Pte William FOORD, East Surrey Regiment, whilst a prisoner of war in the hands of the German's in Tournai. Death is reported to have taken place on May 22nd, but presumably the report has only just been received. Pte FOORD was reported missing, and no news was received of hi for four months. Then came the information that he was a prisoner of war and wounded, and Mrs FOORD has been sending out parcels regularly ever since. Before Joining up in May 1916, Pte FOORD was an auxiliary postman at Margate for eleven years and prior to that he was in the employ of Messrs F J Bobby and Co. AS soon as his military training was completed he was drafted out to France, and had only been in the trenches four times before he was wounded and captured. He had a large number of friends in Margate, all of whom deeply deplore the sad news Mrs FOORD has received, and sincere sympathy felt for her and her young family. A picture of Pte FOORD accompanies this article.
