The Times 21st August 1824 Yesterday morning, the BRITANNIA Steam Packet, Captain BUSHELL, Ramsgate for Calais, and when about four miles out, a very heavy sea struck the vessel's broadside with such force, that a gentleman who was sitting on deck was thrown with great violence into the water, and before assistance could be given, sunk to rise no more. His sister, who was sitting beside him, very narrowly escaped the same fate, but was saved but Captain BUSHELL, who flew from the helm and succeeded in catching hold of her dress, and by that means saved her. The body of the gentleman has not yet been found. The Captain deemed it prudent to return to Ramsgate.
