List, A little story from across the Wantsum with some relevance to IOT, please bear with me. Or close the e-mail right now, as you wish! I have a copy of a tape made in 1975 of a lady called Helen GRIGGS (nee LILLIOTT), who was born in Westmarsh (Ash) in 1878 and lived to be 105. Helen GRIGGS recalls (when she was still only very young) the death of man called Mr BUSHELL, who was the baker in Grove Corner. "Old Mr BUSHELL lived there, Mr BUSHELL at Stourmouth is his grandson. When the old man died his son from Margate or Ramsgate came and took the business. But I can remember the old man dying and what a tiny little girl I must have been, because my mother went round there - course, you used to look at the corpse in those days. Everybody used to have to go and look at the corpse in the coffin. And my mother went round and took me with her. I was so frightened I thought he would jump out. So I must have been very young." He was called Stephen BUSHELL and he died in 1886 aged 68 years. He was born in Preston-next-Wingham, and was a baker. I don't know the connection with Margate oand/or Ramsgate. When he died he was living at Ivy House, Grove Corner, which was a bakehouse. This may be of interest to some BUSHELL descendents. I found it very interesting to hear of having to visit the corpse so. Regards, Russell HENSON OPC for Preston and Elmstone
